Dr. William Littler.

Cystitis

Typical symptoms are, burning discomfort or pain when passing water and frequency in passing water. Treatment includes increasing fluid intake and taking one teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate dissolved in water every few hours may also be helpful. Sachets are available from the chemist.  Cystitis will usually settle within  three days without requiring antibiotics. If symptoms persist longer than this consult your doctor or practice nurse and please bring a urine sample in a spotlessly clean container.

Nose Bleeds

Sit in a chair (leaning forward with your mouth open) and pinch your nose very firmly just below the bone for at least ten minutes, by which time the bleeding usually stops. Do not blow your nose, as this may start the bleeding again.

Insect Bites and Stings

Most of these need no treatment. Soothing creams may be obtained from the chemist without prescription and will relieve most of the discomfort. However, if the sting causes swelling in the mouth or difficulty breathing, then contact the doctor immediately.

Hayfever

If your symptoms are particularly severe, they can be relieved with antihistamine tablets, eye drops or nasal sprays available from the chemist.

Medicine in the Home

Please return any unused medication to our dispensary. Always leave tablets or medicines in their original container. Please remember to keep all medicines in a safe place locked away from children.
