Choking

Infants:

Hold the child upside-down by the legs, or over your knee, or over a
chair with his head well down.
Call for help or dial 999.
Remember to keep calm.

Older children and adults:

Slap sharply between the shoulder blades up to four times.
Contact your doctor as soon as you can, or dial 999 for an ambulance if the person is no better.
Do not leave the casualty at any time unless you have to get help.

Poisons

Find the bottle or container the poison came from, so that you can talk about it to the doctor.
Phone your own doctor or your nearest Accident and Emergency. Remember to take the container with you if you go to hospital or doctor.
Never try to make the patient sick.
